Overview

There’s something special about watching the desert change color as the sun goes down, and this is our favorite way to experience it. This guided backcountry UTV tour takes you deep into the Grand Staircase’s red-rock terrain, away from the crowds, to a private overlook where the evening unfolds slowly: a campfire, warm s’mores, and some of the darkest skies in the country overhead. Bryce Canyon is a designated International Dark Sky Park, so on a clear night you can expect to see the Milky Way with the naked eye. It’s an easygoing adventure that works beautifully for families and couples alike, and you can drive your own UTV or sit back and let your guide handle it.

  • Load up near Bryce Canyon and head out on scenic backcountry trails through the Grand Staircase, with the option to drive your own UTV or ride along while your guide takes the wheel. The route winds through open desert and striking red-rock formations on the way to ROAM’s exclusive Grand to Bryce overlook, a spot most visitors never get to see. As the sun sets over the canyon, you’ll gather around the campfire for fresh, gooey s’mores while the first stars start to appear.

    This is more than a sunset ride. Bryce Canyon’s International Dark Sky Park designation means clear nights often bring out brilliant constellations, and sometimes the Milky Way itself. It’s a relaxed, scenic evening built for families, couples, and anyone who wants to see the Bryce Canyon backcountry from a completely different angle than the standard park visit.

    1. Meet your ROAM guide at Pioneer Village in Tropic, UT

    2. Get a safety briefing and choose to drive your own UTV or ride along

    3. Head out on scenic trails through the Grand Staircase backcountry

    4. Arrive at the exclusive Grand to Bryce overlook as the sun begins to set

    5. Gather around the campfire for s’mores as the sky darkens

    6. Take in the stars, on clear nights, look for the Milky Way overhead

    7. Ride back to Tropic as your evening under Bryce’s dark skies wraps up
